材料科学与工程专业源于1951年成立的西南交通专科学校建材教研室，2001年开始材料科学与工程专业招生。现有教师31人，其中教授14人，副教授10人，博士学位占比87%，国家级省部级人才5人。拥有交通土建工程材料国家地方联合工程研究中心、重庆市材料实验教学示范中心等国家级省部级科教平台5个，以及重庆市创新创业示范团队、重庆市教学团队等6个市级教学科研团队。现有材料科学与工程一级学科硕士点和“材料与化工”专业学位授权点。2013年获批重庆市“三特行动计划”特色专业；2014年获批重庆市“三特行动计划”特色学科专业群；2018年入选重庆市首批“一流专业建设点”；2020年入选国家一流专业建设点，2023年材料科学与工程专业通过教育部工程教育认证。现有市级一流课程和课程思政9门。并与中国交建、招商局重庆交通科研设计院有限公司等企业建立了30多个稳定的实习基地。学生综合素质好、创新能力强，优秀人才辐射全国，在港珠澳大桥、深中通道等国家重大建设项目中发挥了重要作用，得到了社会特别是行业的充分认可。

The major of materials science and engineering originated from the building materials teaching and research department of Southwest Transportation Technological Academy established in 1951. There are 31 faculty members (87% with doctoral degree), including 14 professors, 10 associate professors, and 5 national or provincial level talents. The department has 5 national or provincial level science research and education platforms, as well as 6 provincial teaching and research teams. The major offers materials science and engineering first-level master programs, and "materials and chemical engineering" professional master programs. In 2020, the major was selected as the national first-class professional construction point. In 2023, the major of materials science and engineering passed the engineering education certification of the Ministry of Education.
